Scream Awards

In 2008 I was commissioned to create a giant, fire-breathing dragon for an awards show that looked "super dangerous and made of twisted metal". The producers wanted the award presenters to be able to walk through the open mouth and onto the stage. The show was produced live on camera and in front of a packed audience.

If you look closely, you can see barbell weights at the far back of the dragons mouth in this photo. A union stagehand is testing the mouth open feature. I had to play with the weights and garage door springs until I got it to where the mouth could be opened pretty easily by a single person.
